Social Enterprise for Energy, Ecological and Economic Development (SEEED)
The Hydro Empowerment Network (HPNET) is a knowledge exchange and advocacy platform to advance small-scale hydropower (<1 MW) for climate resilience and equitable rural development in marginalized regions of the Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Collating 40-years of experiential hindsight in the Asia Pacific on what makes projects sustainable and deliver optimal socio-economic and environmental benefits, HPNET established the Social Enterprise for Energy, Ecological and Economic Development (SEEED) approach for community-scale hydro implementation.
The approach is embedded into an accelerator program aimed to unlock the full potential of hydro mini-grid practitioners and communities. The SEEED Accelerator utilizes a 4-step strategy to generate impact from knowledge exchange and advocacy activities.
Knowledge Exchange for Impact
Collate Best Practices
Identify practitioners and best practices of sustainable and high impact mini-grids anchored in social enterprise.
Strategize & Advocate
Support local practitioners to identify and establish partnerships with decision makers to transition to SEEED.
Ground Truth
Facilitate local practitioners to self-assess their potential to transition to local social enterprise, e.g. social capital and value-adding end uses.
Exchange
Coordinate dialogue -- among south-south practicioners and multi-stakeholders to design transition to SEEED.
