MODULE B: SOCIAL ENTERPRISE MODELS FOR HYDRO MINI-GRIDS

Overview

This is the second module of the eLearning series, developed in partnership with the German Cooperative and Raiffeisen Confederation (or DGRV).

We start with an orientation to social enterprise models for sustainable mini-rids, answering the following questions:

  • Why should we consider social enterprise models for hydro mini-grids?
  • What is needed to develop a sustainable social enterprise mini-grid?  We will overview options for funding, cost recovery, revenue generation, and enterprise models.

Finally,  we will use examples from Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Nicaragua, and Pakistan to dive deeper into the different social enterprise models to present best practices.  We will cover the User Group, Cooperative, Public Limited Company, and Private Company models, including hybrid variations.
