MODULE H: PHASES OF WATERSHED MANAGEMENT FOR HYDRO MINI-GRIDS

Overview

This module focuses on the phases of watershed management for hydro mini-grids, namely:

  1. Feasibility
  2. Planning
  3. Preparation
  4. Treatment
  5. Maintenance
  6. Monitoring & Evaluation

We start with an overview of these key phases and then discuss how each correlates with hydro mini-grid implementation.  We then address how roles and stakeholders link between hydro mini-grids and watershed management.

In the second half of the module, we delve deeper into the Feasibility Phase, to discuss the foundational elements that are required to initiate the watershed management process.  This includes assessing baseline conditions, identifying the Watershed Governance Body, and establishing a long-term strategy and near-term goals.

We then discuss watershed governance bodies – what they are, how they can be identified, and what factors make them effective. Finally, we discuss landscape-level strategizing and project-specific proposals.
